Open call for
Homeland – Çanakkale Art Walk 2017
The second edition of Çanakkale Art Walk will take place between June 6th and August 6th 2017 and is conceived as a cooperation between Mahal (organisers of the Çanakkale Biennale), BBK-Osnabrück, Felix-Nussbaum-Haus, Gesellschaft für zeitgenössische Kunst, the Kunsthalle Osnabrück and the town partnership office of the city of Osnabrück.
The first exhibition organised in the framework of Çanakkale Art Walk took place in 2014, as collaboration between BBK-Osnabrück and Mahal.
The cities of Osnabrück and Çanakkale have been city partners since 2004 and are regularly exchanging city ambassadors.
For its second edition guest-curator Christian Oxenius will select 35 works, 10 of these were originally included in the 5th Çanakkale Biennale, planned for 2016 and sadly cancelled. The works are selected to explore the theme of “Homeland” and will be exhibited in the BBK’s Kunst-Quartier, the Felix-Nussbaum-Haus, the Kunsthalle Osnabrück, and the Kunstraum hase29 as well as other locations throughout the city..
Homeland as a space defined by others but influencing our own identity, a place to escape from and one which we produce and re-produce daily, an idea which we can claim individual ownership and yet is often adopted in discourses that threaten our individual existence. What is the significance of this term in a historical moment in which lands are increasingly surrounded by fences and walls? Çanakkale Art Walk will attempt to trace, through the sensitivity and gestures of the selected artists the significance of this key term articulated through belonging, displacement, cultural hybridity, citizenship, domestic as well as public/political practices among other discourses.
